Course Description
The Professionalism Development course supports the broadening of a student’s professional and personal growth and experience. During the Foundations Phase, students will engage in a total of six weekly experiences that fulfill personal interests or allow students to develop knowledge and skills that enrich career development.
Course Objectives
- Articulate values, vision, and professional goals as an aspiring physician
- Evaluate alignment of medical experiences with personal interest, strengths, and long-term career focus
- Engage with at least one faculty member, advisor, or coach to identify concrete learning goals or career development steps to produce an action plan
- Demonstrate professional, communication, and organizational skills necessary for future physicians
- Identify one or more appropriate coping and wellbeing strategies, and describe how they can be applied to manage future academic challenges
- Pursue faculty-supervised scholarly, service, and curricular activities that are necessary for medical school success

Assessment
Assessment for this course is formative and is based on a Post-Experience Evaluation & Self-Assessment following each experience week (6 total).
Requests for excused absences should be submitted via Elentra. Unexcused absences may result in grading penalties as outlined in the Policy on Absence and Attendance.
