Course Description

This course introduces students to the underlying pathophysiology and phenomenology of rheumatologic disorders, presenting basic approaches to assessment and management, to prepare them for clinical rotations.

Course Objectives​

  1. Acquire an understanding of clinical manifestations of most common systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease.
  2. Be proficient in the use of comprehensive history and review of system pertinent to systemic rheumatic disease
  3. Understand the usefulness and limitations of current immunologic testing in systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease.
  4. Understand the role of imaging in diagnosis and monitoring of systemic rheumatic disease.
  5. Obtain an understanding of assessment and management of systemic rheumatic disease including interprofessional collaborative care.
  6. Understand the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, glucocorticoids, immunomodulatory and immunosuppressive agents in systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease.

Evaluation

Evaluation for this course is based on a cumulative, graded Summative exam.
