Course Description
This 6-week clerkship emphasizes sexual and reproductive care across the lifespan while working clinically with both General OB/GYN physicians and OB/GYN specialists. Students will rotate through three clinical environments, including outpatient services (outpatient offices), obstetrics (labor and delivery suite, OB ER/Triage and antepartum service), and gynecology (benign gynecology, urogynecology and gynecologic oncology).
Daily schedules may include teaching rounds, evaluation of outpatients, preparation of patients for surgery and assisting/observing in surgery and deliveries, postoperative, and postpartum care.
Course Objectives
- Adequately perform a thorough and organized menstrual, obstetric, gynecologic, contraceptive, and sexual history using gender-inclusive language
- Recognize the physician’s role as a leader and advocate for women
- Recognize the presentation and course of common diseases specific to the vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and breasts
- Demonstrate understanding of the physiologic changes of pregnancy
- Demonstrate knowledge of intrapartum and postpartum care
The clerkship takes place at UPMC Magee-Women's Hospital and various surgical and office sites in the Greater Pittsburgh Region

Evaluation
Evaluation of the clerkship will be based on a combination of your clinical performance from preceptors (60%), NBME web-based subject final examination (20%), the written reflective exercise on Informed Consent and Ethics (10%), and two quizzes (10%)
Grading: The clerkship is graded Honors, High Satisfactory, Satisfactory, Low Satisfactory, Unsatisfactory.
